Free Key Fob Remote Programming Instructions for a 2012 Cadillac CTS


Time needed: 10 minutes.


SMART PROXIMITY KEY FOB REMOTE - WITH ONE PROGRAMMED REMOTE
Step-By-Step How To Programming Instructions

  1. Place Programmed Smart Key

    PLACE the programmed smart key in the Transmitter Pocket (refer to Owner’s Manual for location) with buttons facing the front of the vehicle.

  2. Access Key Lock Cylinder

    REMOVE the key lock cylinder cap from the Driver’s door (to the right of the door handle).

    a. Insert the door key into the slot on the bottom of the cover.
    b. Lift the key upward to remove the cover.

  3. Enter Programming Mode

    INSERT the CUT emergency key of the NEW key fob into the key lock cylinder (located on the outside of the Driver’s door to the right of the door handle) AND TURN the key counterclockwise to the UNLOCK position 5 times within 5 seconds. The Driver Information Console (DIC) will display “READY FOR REMOTE #2, 3, 4, or 5.”

  4. Program Remote – Step 1

    PLACE the NEW key in the Transmitter Pocket (refer to Owner’s Manual for location) with the buttons facing the front of the vehicle.

  5. Program Remote – Step 2

    PRESS the ENGINE START/STOP button. When the smart key is learned, the DIC will display “READY TO LEARN ELECTRONIC KEY #N.”

  6. Program Remote – Step 3

    REMOVE the smart key fob from the Transmitter Pocket and PRESS the UNLOCK button 2 times to finalize programming of the remote.

  7. Program Additional Remotes

    REPEAT Steps 4-6 to program any additional smart key transmitters.

  8. Exit Programming Mode

    PRESS the ENGINE START/STOP button to EXIT Programming Mode.

  9. Test Remotes

    TEST all remotes. Programming is complete.

SMART PROXIMITY KEY FOB REMOTE - WITHOUT PROGRAMMED REMOTE
Step-By-Step How To Programming Instructions

  1. Access Key Lock Cylinder

    REMOVE the key lock cylinder cap from the Driver’s door (to the right of the door handle).

    a. Insert the door key into the slot on the bottom of the cover.
    b. Lift the key upward to remove the cover.

  2. Enter Programming Mode – Step 1

    INSERT the CUT emergency key of the NEW smart key fob into the key lock cylinder AND TURN the key counterclockwise to the UNLOCK position 5 times within 10 seconds. The Driver Information Console (DIC) will display “PRESS START CONTROL TO LEARN KEYS.”

  3. Enter Programming Mode – Step 2

    PRESS the ENGINE START/STOP button.

  4. Enter Programming Mode – Step 3

    The DIC will display “LEARN DELAY ACTIVE, WAIT X MIN” and WAIT for it to count down to ZERO.

  5. Enter Programming Mode – Step 4

    The DIC will then display “PRESS START CONTROL TO LEARN KEYS” again.

  6. Enter Programming Mode – Step 5

    PRESS the ENGINE START/STOP button.

  7. Enter Programming Mode – Step 6

    The DIC will display “LEARN DELAY ACTIVE, WAIT X MIN” and WAIT for it to count down to ZERO.

  8. Enter Programming Mode – Step 7

    The DIC will then display “PRESS START CONTROL TO LEARN KEYS” again.

  9. Enter Programming Mode – Step 8

    PRESS the ENGINE START/STOP button.

  10. Enter Programming Mode – Step 9

    The DIC will then display “LEARN DELAY ACTIVE, WAIT XX MIN” and WAIT for it to count down to ZERO.

  11. Program Remote – Step 1

    A beep will sound at ZERO and the DIC will display “READY TO LEARN ELECTRONIC KEY #X.”

    All previously programmed smart keys will NOT be erased from the vehicle’s memory.

  12. Program Remote – Step 2

    A beep will sound once successful programming for the remote is complete.

  13. Program Remote – Step 3

    The DIC will then display “READY TO LEARN ELECTRONIC KEY #X.”

  14. Program Additional Remotes

    To program additional smart keys, place them into the Transmitter Pocket UNTIL a beep is heard and the DIC advances to the next smart key #.

  15. Exit Programming Mode

    PRESS the ENGINE START/STOP button to EXIT Programming Mode.

  16. Finalize Programming

    PRESS the UNLOCK button on each newly programmed smart key to finalize programming.

  17. Test Remotes

    TEST all remotes. Programming is complete.

  • Verify the following prior to following these instructions:
    • Your vehicle is equipped with keyless entry, and
    • You have a key fob remote that is compatible with your vehicle.
  • Obtain ALL remote transmitters for this vehicle.
  • Have the emergency key on the new remote cut in preparation for the programming procedure.

TRANSPONDER KEY
Step-By-Step How To Programming Instructions

  1. Enter Programming Mode – Step 1

    ENTER the vehicle and CLOSE the Driver’s door.

  2. Enter Programming Mode – Step 2

    INSERT working Transponder Key into Ignition and TURN to the ‘ON’ position (just prior to cranking engine), WAIT 1 second and TURN back to the OFF position to successfully enter Programming Mode.

    REMOVE key from Ignition.

  3. Program Transponder Key

    INSERT NEW key into Ignition and TURN to the ‘ON’ position (just prior to cranking engine).

    The key is now programmed to your vehicle.

  4. Test Transponder Key

    TEST the new Transponder Key. Programming is now complete.

  5. Program Additional Transponder Keys

    To program additional Transponder Keys, simply repeat the procedure.
