I lost my 4-button Smart key fob for my 2017 Nissan Rogue Sport several weeks ago but was sure it would eventually be found and show up, but it didn’t. After searching throughout my house, my vehicles; and all of the locations I had been to previously, I was ready to give up and purchase one through the dealer. What a surprise it was when they quoted me a price of nearly $500 to program one, but was told if I supplied the key fob and had them program it, the cost would be $140.00 to program plus $20.00 to cut the key. However, I found floating around Pennsylvania are kiosks now popping up in Walmarts, Lowe’s, Home Depots, and other retail establishments where you insert your key and the machine will duplicate it. These machines also included programming key fobs at a cheaper price than that I was quoted from the dealer – so I decided to try it. After discussing the type of fob and starter system I had on the car, you sent me the best choice for the fob I needed. However, when I took it to the kiosk to be programmed, I began filling in the information on the type of vehicle it was, it stopped at the Nissan Rogue and would not accept the Rogue Sport. I tried several times as well as have the store clerk try to help, but it wouldn’t accept it. Frustrated, I went home and questioned my computer’s AI and here’s what it said: “Nissan uses a proprietary immobilizer system that requires access to their consult diagnostic software.
The vehicle’s ECU (electronic control unit) must recognize the fob’s unique signal, which can only be synced using specialized equipment.
That’s why dealerships and certified locksmiths are your go-to for programming.” After talking to 2 “specialized Locksmiths” in my area, neither said they could help, so I decided to go to my dealer to have the work done. The cost finally came to $149.95. Thank You for helping me select the correct FOB.
