Programming Notes:

Obtain all remote transmitters for this vehicle. This procedure will erase all previously programmed remotes. You must program all existing and new remotes that you wish to use on the vehicle at this time.

It is recommended that two (2) people perform Procedure #3. You will need someone to manage the jumper wire while performing the procedure from the Driver’s seat.

Keyless Entry System Memory Clearing Instructions are noted in the dark blue colored steps below.

Procedure #1 (Lock/Unlock/Red Mitsubishi Logo Remote(s))
Step-by-Step How To Programming Instructions:

  1. LOCATE the keyless entry receiver module. The module will be a black box approximately 7”x4”x2” with wires leading to it.
    • Diamante location: in the vicinity of the glove box
    • Galant location: attached to the blower motor above the glove box
    • Eclipse/Montero location: behind the panel located underneath the steering wheel (you will need to remove the panel)
  2. LOCATE the programming connector near the keyless entry receiver module. It’s a white plastic connector with two (2) wires and two (2) terminals that are NOT plugged in to anything.
  3. AFTER locating the programming connector, jump the two (2) metal terminals inside the plug with a suitable groundwire (paperclip). The vehicle will respond by automatically cycling the vehicle’s locks and beeping the horn to indicate entry into Programming Mode.
  4. PRESS the LOCK button on the first remote to be programmed. The vehicle will respond by automatically cycling the vehicle’s locks and beeping the horn to indicate successful programming of that remote.
  5. REPEAT Step 4 for any additional remotes to be programmed to the vehicle.
  6. REMOVE jumper wire and test all remotes. Programming is now complete.

Procedure #2 (Arm/Disarm Remote(s))
Step-by-Step How To Programming Instructions:

  1. OPEN the Driver’s door.
  2. INSERT the key into the Ignition and TURN to the ON position (just shy of cranking the engine)
  3. PRESS and HOLD the Programming/Override Button (located under the Driver’s side dashboard). Within 20 seconds the Vehicle will cycle the door locks and the horn will sound three (3) times to indicate Vehicle has entered Programming Mode. DO NOT release the Programming/Override Button.
  4. PRESS the #1 Button (top left) on the first remote.  The Vehicle will respond by cycling the door locks and the horn will sound one (1) time to indicate successful programming.
  5. REPEAT Step 4 to program up to three (3) additional remotes. (Total of four (4))
  6. To EXIT Programming Mode, RELEASE the Programming/Override Button and TURN the Ignition to OFF.
  7. Test all remotes. Programming is now complete.

Procedure #3 (Unlock/Red Lock Button Remote(s))
Step-by-Step How To Programming Instructions:

  1. LOCATE the Data Link Connector (DLC) pictured above.  It will be located underneath the dashboard/steering column on the Driver’s side.  
  2. IDENTIFY DLC Ports 1 and 4 from the diagram above.  Notice the metal contacts inside both Ports 1 and 4.
  3. INSERT key into the Ignition and leave it in the OFF position.
  4. JUMP Ports 1 and 4 with a suitable jumper wire.  Any metal wire (paper clip) will do.  Ensure constant contact between both metal contacts and the jumper wire at all times throughout this procedure.
  5. Within ten (10) seconds, PRESS the Hazard Light Switch six (6) times.  The door locks will cycle once indicating successful entry into Programming Mode.
  6. PRESS the LOCK Button on the first remote to be programmed three (3) times within ten (10) seconds.  The door locks will cycle once indicating successful programming of that remote.
  7. REPEAT Step 6 for any additional remotes to be programmed within one (1) minute.
  8. REMOVE the jumper wire connected to the Data Link Port.
  9. Test all remotes. Programming is now complete.
